Danny Davis, longtime CPA and McGregor civic leader passed away at the age of 65.  Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Monday July 8, 2019 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive, Waco.  Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday July 9, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Sappenfield officiating.  Interment, with Masonic honors under the auspices of Crawford Lodge 585, will follow in McGregor Cemetery.

Danny was born January 30, 1954, in Waco, Texas, the son of the late Freddie Dee and Reva Louise (Schroeder) Davis.  He was a 1972 graduate of McGregor High School.  As a member of the first golf team as a freshman, he advanced to regional play.  He advanced his skills to an almost scratch golfer.  Danny was willing to share his talent with the youth of McGregor as he helped spearhead and instructed the youth golfers at the Alva Wright Golf Academy, sponsored by the McGregor Rotary Club.  One of Danny’s golf highlights was getting to play with pro golfer Bob Dickson and Alva Wright at Ridgewood Country Club in the late 70s.  He also enjoyed going to the Colonial Professional Golf Tournament in Fort Worth for many years.  Danny also enjoyed following Tiger Wood and Annaka Sorenstam.

Danny earned both his BBA and MBA degrees from Baylor University and practiced as a CPA and owner of McGregor Associates for many decades.

Danny was also a great tennis player who was instrumental in organizing the McGregor Tennis Association and the updating of the local tennis court.

It has been said that Danny was a “Main Street Kid”, growing up at his parent’s McGregor Men’s Store.  He continued his love of McGregor by being instrumental in McGregor becoming a Main Street City back in the early 90’s and stayed active with Main Street until it was changed to McGregor community Development.  In fact, Danny co-wrote the grant for McGregor to become a Main Street City.  He served as director for both organizations for many years.  He worked tirelessly on McGregor Founders Day Celebrations from its beginnings in 1992 to 2014.  One Christmas for an Main Street event, he played Santa Clause.

He also served as a director for many years with McGregor United Fund.

Danny was a loyal and treasured member of the McGregor Rotary Club, joining in January of 1979.   He was president of the club in 2000-2001, and held many offices during his years as a Rotarian. Danny was also a Paul Harris Fellow.  If you attended a McGregor pancake Supper, you experienced his expertise in mixing the batter.  He Joined another member his first year as a member, mixing the pancake batter and continues in that job for 40 years.

Danny was a staunch supporter of the McGregor Bulldog and Lady Bears Basketball with his regular attendance.

Danny had a special group of friends at both Poppa Rollo locations.  He was there most evenings for dinner. He was the “Norm” of the group.

Recently he celebrated the 10th anniversary of his liver transplant.

Danny was raised a member of McGregor Masonic Lodge 376, November 19, 1979 and severed several positions including Worshipful Master in 83 to 84.  In 2015 the lodge merged with Crawford Masonic Lodge 585.  Danny was an endowed member and a master mason for forty years.

Survivors include Mary Sue Bass, aunt, living in McGregor. Jeff and Margery Bass of Woodway and son Thomas Bass. Tommy and Betty Wheeler of Clifton. Steve Falkenberg. Peggy and Pete Petri of Carrollton. Katherine and Michael Johnston of Ft Worth, Dale Davis of Washington,  Meghan and Chad Breeland of Houston , Phillip Johnston Ft. Worth, Elizabeth and Matt Smid of Ft Worth and son Andrew. Mary Ann Koerper and Caroline Pedersen of Georgetown, Conrad and Pam Koerper of Burlington, VT.  and many friends as close as family like Jimmy Gatlin.
