Robert “Bob” Jay Blacker, 86, of Hewitt, formerly of Arizona, passed away at his home in Hewitt, Texas on his 86th birthday, October 29, 2019. A Memorial Service will be 11:00 am, Saturday November 9, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Lorena, officiated by Reverend Heath Kirkwood.

Bob was born in Newton, Iowa to Alta and Lloyd Blacker. He was the youngest of three boys.  As a youth the family relocated to Los Angeles, California, where he was a 1952 graduate of Excelsior High School.  Bob married Doris Lewis in 1953 as well as entering the United States Army.  He served his country for two years and returned to Los Angeles to begin working in manufacturing while earning his Bachelor’s.  He was a 1961 graduate from Fullerton College. After graduation, Bob began working for Hughes Aircraft for 15 years.

He and Doris entered the seminary at American Baptist Seminary of the West, Berkley where he earned a Master’s degree in Theology graduating in 1982.  While he was attending Seminary he participated in studies in both Australia and Israel.   Shortly after graduating from Seminary, they became missionaries on the Hopi/Navajo Indian Reservation in Northern Arizona, where they served for 10 years. Upon leaving the mission field, they accepted a pastorate at Shepard of the Hills in Morenci, Arizona.  They continued to serve for 10 years until his retirement.  Bob continued to serve during his retirement at many churches as their interim.

Together he and Doris raised three children, Craig, Carrie, and Cindy.  They always found time to be involved with the youth ministry and their children.

In July, 2014, Bob became a widow.  In February, 2016, Bob found love again and married Mrs. Peggy Weeks.   Bob was faithful to bring her home to Texas.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; and brother, Bruce.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Peggy; Brother, Ron and wife Lynn; son, Craig and wife Barbara; daughters, Carrie and husband Billy, Cindy and husband William; six grand children; eight great grand children; and numerous nieces and nephews.
