Russell Cate

Russell Cate, 84, of Speegleville, entered his heavenly reward on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.  A Celebration of his life will be 10:30am, Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Speegleville Baptist Church, with Dr. Joe Bailey officiating.

Russell was born October 21, 1938 in Waco, Texas, the only child of H.H. and Leona Cate. He was a graduate of Midway High School, class of 1956.  After graduation, Russell began his apprenticeship at the Waco Tribune Herald. He eventually retired from Davis Brothers Publishing.

In 1957, Russell married the love of his life, Jo Ann Breedlove.  The couple’s courtship began at a Grace Temple Baptist Church social.  Russell was a talented pianist and loved to serve his church.  He was a deacon, volunteered in many church activities and committees, and he dearly loved Vacation Bible School.

Left to carry out his legacy are his beloved wife of 65 years, Jo Ann; children, Debbie Graser, Joel Cate, Paul Cate; grandchildren, Cory Cate, Jessica Barber, Elizabeth Rembacki; great grandchildren, Rosalind Cate, Christian Barber; brothers – in – law, John Breedlove, Jim Breedlove; and nieces and nephews.

The family appreciates the exceptional care from St. Anthony’s and Bluebonnet Hospice.
