Barbara Maxine Buice, a beloved matriarch, peacefully departed this world on June 25, 2025, in Waco, Texas. Born on December 19, 1934, in Stephenville, Texas, to Joseph and Lillie Stewart, Barbara lived a life full of vigor and devotion; she was a spirited soul whose impact resonated deeply within her family and community.
After graduating from Arlington High School, she worked for LoneStar Gas Company and Production Credit Union. In 1958, Barbara moved to Moody, Texas, where she met and married the love of her life, Lawrence Buice. Together, they raised their two sons and built a life rooted in love, faith, and family.
Barbara later attended beauty school and went on to own and operate several beauty shops over the years. In her later years, she poured her energy into running the Kountry Kitchen, where she became well known for her famous chicken and dumplin’s and coconut cream pies — dishes that drew people in and kept them coming back.
Barbara was known for her feisty personality, a zest for life that endeared her to everyone who crossed her path. She was affectionately known as "maw," a title that captured her role as the heart of her family. Her kitchen was a haven filled with the delicious aromas of homemade meals, where gathering with loved ones was always a cherished ritual. She delighted in cooking and enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and laughter. She and Lawrence found their greatest pleasure in the time they spent with them.
A true lady of the garden, Barbara had a profound love for her flowerbeds, investing time and care into nurturing their beauty. The simple pleasures of picking and shelling pecans were among her favorite pastimes, as was her participation in community garage sales, where her enthusiasm never waned. Barbara approached life with a cheerful spirit and a playful heart. She was a longtime and faithful member of Speegleville Baptist Church.
Barbara leaves behind her loving sons, Donal Buice and his wife Debbie, and Ronnie Buice and his wife Mary Beth, along with grandchildren Matt Buice and his wife Brandie, Tabitha Schuerg and her husband Justin, Lindsey Volcik and her husband Travis, and Coty Buice with Lauren Wheeler. Her legacy is beautifully continued through her great-grandchildren: Kendall, Colton, Madison, Camrie, Caden, Cooper, Mabry, Lynlie, and Cash, who will forever treasure their memories with their great-maw maw.
Though she has joined her beloved husband Lawrence, as well as her brother Rufus Stewart and sister Jean Stewart, in eternal rest, Barbara's spirit and vibrant essence will linger in the hearts of those who loved her.
A visitation to honor Barbara's life will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Grace Gardens Funeral Home & Crematorium in Woodway, Texas. A Memorial Service will follow at noon, with retired pastor, Joe Bailey, officiating. In this gathering, friends and family will come together to celebrate a remarkable woman who enriched lives with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Barbara Maxine Buice will be dearly missed but never forgotten, her legacy of love firmly woven into the fabric of her family’s story.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dianne Bernhardt, a cherished family friend whose unwavering love, support, and devoted care brought comfort and companionship to Maw in her final months. Your presence meant the world to her — and to us.
