Betty Ann Orton

April 17, 1937 — June 18, 2023

On Sunday, June 18th 2023, Betty Ann Orton, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 86.

Betty was born in Detroit Michigan to Cecil and Ella Jean Quire in 1937. She was one of four siblings and enjoyed her time growing up with many friends and cousins. Betty graduated from the City of Detroit public high school in June 1955. Her early days of working were at the Michigan Consolidated Gas company. She married Kenneth Orton in October of 1959 in Detroit. They enjoyed over sixty three years of marriage together. Ken and Betty started their family in Michigan and decided to make their big move to Waco, Texas in 1970. Betty was always an active member in her church whether she was a Sunday school teacher, a prayer partner, a choir member, or a deaconess.
Her and her husband were also in charge of the children's primary department for a number of years. Her Tuesday ladies prayer group was always a priority and joy for Betty in her later years. Betty always wanted people to know of her love for Jesus Christ.

Betty was the Hewitt City Secretary for nineteen years and retired in 1998. She was in charge of weekly council meetings and was even acting City Manager for a short period of time. Betty loved working in the church and loved her family dearly. She was devoted to her relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. She especially loved spending time with her six great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her greater joy than when she was ministering to people and providing words of encouragement. Betty focused on being a positive uplifting person to all she encountered. The kind spirit of the Lord was always in her heart.

Betty is survived by her husband, Kenneth Orton, her three children, David Orton and his wife Heather, Jonathan Orton and Deborah DeGarmo and her husband Keith, her four grandchildren, Candace Olsen, Joshua Orton, Emily DeGarmo and Dylan DeGarmo and her three siblings, James Quire, Michael Quire and Sharon Charnawskas.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 30th at 10:00 am at the Hewitt Community Church 212 Kiowa Trail Hewitt, Texas 76643.
