Charles Kendrick

Charles Kendrick passed away May 31, 2009 completing a journey with cancer. Born on October 21, 1923 in Waco, Texas, Charles graduated from Waco High School and completed degrees from Schreiner Institute and the U.S. Naval Academy. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy including active duty during World War II and the Korean War, and was employed for many years as an engineer with Schlumberger Well Services. Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Spencer Kendrick; his son, Thomas Evans Kendrick and wife, Cheryl; his son, Richard Spencer Kendrick and wife, Susan; his three brothers - Jim Kendrick and wife, Elaine, Jack Kendrick and wife, Mary Agnes, Gardner Kendrick and wife Karen; brother-in-law, Richard Spencer; cousins, Lee and Wilton Lanning and Elizabeth Kelly; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Kate Kendrick and Susan Kendrick; and his parents, Mr. Jim Kendrick, and Mr. & Mrs. Roger Powell.

Charles and Mary Ann were charter members of Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston. Charles was a deacon, a member of the Adult Choir and taught Sunday School at Calder Baptist Church in Beaumont, and was a deacon and a member of the Sanctuary Choir at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco. He was a member of Rotary in Waco and served on the boards of Historic Waco Foundation, Texas Historical Commission, Waco Historic Landmark Preservation Commission, and McLennan County Historical Foundation.

A memorial service for Charles will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3 in the Sanctuary of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church – 1300 Columbus Avenue, Waco, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Columbus Avenue Baptist Church (of Waco), or Calder Baptist Church (of Beaumont).
