Charles Alfred Knox

September 19, 1930 — July 18, 2025

Charles A. Knox passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, Texas. He was born on September 19, 1930, in Marion, Ohio, to Charles E. Knox and Garnet Everly Knox.

Charles served his country in the United States Air Force for over 20 years, with assignments that took him to Vietnam, Greenland, Saudi Arabia, and Labrador.

While stationed at James Connally Air Force Base in Waco, Charles met and married Erline Hamilton on October 2, 1948. Together they shared 73 years of marriage and raised six wonderful children.

Following his military service, Charles worked at General Tire and Rubber Company and later at Ridgecrest Retirement Center, where he continued to show the same work ethic and dedication. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and also a proud member of the Crawford Masonic Lodge No. 585.

Charles enjoyed the outdoors—fishing, hunting, and swapping stories with friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Erline, his five brothers—Jim, Danny, Buddy, Bob, and Melvin Knox—and one sister, Joann McGaff.

He is survived by two daughters and four sons: Patty Dietzman and husband Mike, Connie Hamilton and husband Charles, Larry Knox and wife, Judy, Danny Knox, Kenny Knox, and Kelly Knox and wife, Cindy. He also leaves behind his sisters, Patsy Rainwater and Isabella Smith; two brothers, Mike Knox and Frank Knox, Sr., his 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who were all very special to him.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on July 25, 2025, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Waco. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Terry Atkins officiating. Interment will take place at Flint Creek Cemetery near Gatesville with military honors.
