Charles "Mate" Lee Gentry

Charles Lee Gentry, lovingly known as "Mate" went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Wesley Woods Rehabilitation Center in Waco, Texas. A celebration of his life will be at 2:00pm, Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. 

Mate was born September 13, 1949, to the late J.D. and Dovie Gentry.  He retired from HB Zachary after 25 years as a material and planning Supervisor.  Mate loved car racing and fishing.  He was a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather.  He found joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was welcomed into heaven by his three brothers, Don, Joe, and Carl Gentry; sister, Rena Palmer, all from North Carolina.

Left to carry on his legacy are his beloved wife, Evelyn; son, Michael Gentry and wife, Dee, from Georgetown; daughters, Dawn Gentry, from Austin,  Cheryl Rodriquez and husband Jesse from Roundrock; step children, Kimberly Geibel and husband, Steve, Jimmy Haley and wife Tasha; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Spears and husband, Robert; brother, Dave Gentry and wife, Belinda, all from North Carolina.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Wesley Woods for their loving care of Mate, especially Mary, Vanessa, Julie, and Myra.  Mate and his family thank his niece, Theresa Dillon who brought him his morning coffee. The family would like to express their thanks to Michelle at Amedysis Hospice.
