Cynthia Larsen McGill passed away on Tuesday morning, January 13, 2026. She was born in Kinston, NC on September 21, 1958, to the late Robert Glenn Larsen and the late Charline Williams Larsen.
Cynthia attended the University of South Carolina, where she formed lifelong friendships with a close-knit group affectionately known as the “Munchatas.” In the summer of 1982, she met and fell in love with Charles Richard McGill. They were married in December 1986 and shared nearly four decades together.
Cynthia spent more than ten years as a regional manager with Weight Watchers. This work reflected her enduring commitment to health, fitness, and encouraging others to pursue healthier lives.
Driven by a lifelong interest in health and medicine, Cynthia later returned to school in Greenville, South Carolina, where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She loved being a nurse and found working as a pediatric nurse especially rewarding. Providing care for young children was the highlight of her professional life.
The McGill family lived in Greenville, South Carolina, for more than twenty years. One of Cynthia’s greatest joys was her friends and church family at Pelham Road Baptist Church. She and her family were active members and continue to hold the congregation close to their hearts.
In 2015, Cynthia and Charles moved to Waco, Texas, where Charles began a new job. Cynthia quickly grew to love Texas and formed a close group of friends in Waco known as the “Texas Gallivanters.” Together, they encouraged one another to stay active and exercised together, participating in charity walks and other fitness events. Cynthia was particularly proud of completing a half marathon with her friends.
Cynthia and Charles shared a love of music. They first met at a new wave concert in Greenville and continued throughout their lives together to enjoy live music. Cynthia appreciated a wide range of musical styles, and her playlists included rock, reggae, jazz, blues, R&B, classical, bluegrass, and pop.
In addition to her husband, Charles (Chuck) McGill, Cynthia is survived by her three children: Charles (Chas) McGill and his wife Lauren of Richmond, Virginia; Corinne McGill Gant and her husband Edmund of Charleston, South Carolina; and Robert (Zack) McGill and his wife Jessica of San Diego, California. Cynthia was also blessed with three grandchildren: Levi and Luke, sons of Chas and Lauren, and Charlie, son of Zack and Jessica. Cynthia was excited to learn last month that she is expecting her first granddaughter, Zack and Jessica are expecting Amelia in July. She is also survived by her sisters, Rhonda McCorkle (husband Kent), Ellen Strong (late husband William), and Elizabeth Larsen.
A memorial service will be held in Waco, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Grace Garden Funeral Home Chapel, with the family receiving friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. A second memorial service for family and friends in South Carolina will be held on Thursday, January 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Pelham Road Baptist Church, with Dr. John Roy officiating. Cynthia will be interred at Graceland East Cemetery following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association. While the disease may have taken Cynthia from this world, she was not defeated by it. Our hope is that one day, in the not-too-distant future, there will be a cure for this devastating disease.
