Cynthia Ward Michaelis, aged 58, passed away on September 15, 2024, in Waco, TX. Born on August 17, 1966, Cindy dedicated her life to her family and her community, leaving a lasting impact through her extensive charitable work.

Cindy completed her undergraduate studies in Philosophy at The University of Texas in Austin, and furthered her education with a Master’s degree at Baylor University. Her academic background fueled her lifelong passion for thoughtful engagement and community service. Cindy’s professional journey was marked by a successful career in fundraising. She worked tirelessly for several organizations within Central Texas, including the American Cancer Society, the Providence Health Foundation, the McLennan County Youth Collaboration, the Cameron Park Zoological and Botanical Society, and the La Vega Pirates Education Foundation. Cindy earned her Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) distinction by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and her career efforts were recognized when she was named Fundraiser of the Year in 2012 by the Central Texas Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Cindy also served on many nonprofit boards and community organization committees over the years to which she lent her considerable fundraising knowledge.

A cherished member of her community, Cindy was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Waco, where she actively participated in church activities and educational programs.

A loving and devoted mother, Cindy was immensely proud of her son Cameron and recently attended and celebrated his graduation from the College of William and Mary in May of this year.

Cindy is survived by her son, Joel Cameron Michaelis, step-daughter, Bethany Fieseler, her sister, Denise Ward Joyner and husband Jeff Joyner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Randolph Eugene Ward and Delores Schulz Ward.

A celebration of Cindy’s life will be held at Grace Gardens in Waco on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 1:00-3:00 pm. Those who knew her will remember Cindy as intelligent, insightful, and a fierce friend.
