Cynthia Diaz

September 12, 1943 — June 3, 2025

It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Cynthia Diaz, left this world on June 3, 2025.

Cynthia was a cherished member of the McGregor community, where she lived for over 35 years. Her life was filled with simple joys—she had a love for gardening and was fond of flowers of all kinds. Hummingbird visits, were small moments that made her smile.

Cynthia also had a spontaneous side—spur-of-the-moment road trips, always ready to jump in the car for a new view.

After the passing of her husband, she especially cherished going out to eat with her family, creating memories together around the table. She loved listening to her husband Joseph, a proud, decorated army veteran, play drums in his band at the AMA in McGregor and the Legion Hall in McGregor—places filled with music, memories, and love.

Her faith gave her comfort and courage through life’s many seasons. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Joseph Diaz; her parents, Francis and Ruth Shumate; siblings Jimmy Shumate, Charles Shumate, and Judy Kroner; and her dear daughter, Shelley Beeson.

Cynthia’s legacy lives on through her children Rena & spouse, Lee Rasmusson, Tammy Patterson & Terry Lanford, and Tracy & spouse. Randy Vanek. She is also survived by her extended family, Cloresia & husband Quinton, Melinda Copeland, Joseph & wife Lori, and John & Stephanie and her beloved sister, Francis Koepke.

Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Stacey Boatright, Brandon Boatright & wife Heather, Meghan Mach & husband Jeff, Sarah Patterson, Krystal Tice & husband Jason, Robert Mounce & wife Kimberly, Dalton Winn & wife Kristan, Hayden Winn & wife Abigail, and Becca Vanek & fiancé John.

She was a loving great-grandmother to, Blake Gupton, Jacob Rasmusson, Brenya Mussman, Kayla & Carson Boatright, Jeffrey Mach, Matthew & Emma Bradbury, Brooklyn & Logan Winn, Sofia Winn, Samuel Vanek, Tristan, Kason & Kennadi Tice. And a proud great-great-grandmother to Kaylee & Kooper Mounce, and Sawyer Tice.

Among her many blessings, one of the most faithful was her beloved dog Chicka, her constant companion and comfort after the loss of her husband.

Cynthia’s life was a testament to her family, faith, and the beauty she found in the everyday moments. She will be missed deeply and forever remembered.
