Denise Garrett Obituary
Date of Birth 10-13-56 Died 10-16-25 Age 69
Denise Lee Zelenevitz was born on October 13, 1956 in Belton, Texas to Joyce Lee Ming Zelenevitz (deceased) and Louis Edward Zelenevitz (deceased). After graduating from Pendleton High School in Pendleton, Indiana, she worked as a CNA in several nursing homes in Georgetown and Waco, Texas. She was a Home Health Aide for Right At Home in Waco, Texas, before being forced to retire due to serious health problems in 2020. She moved to Saint Catherine’s Care Facility (Providence Village) in April 2021.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Hudgens, in May 1986, and niece Shannon Guthrie in August 2018. She is survived by three sisters, Gail Marie Smith (Rusty), Joan Debb Flanagan, and Shelly Kay Clark (Brian); one niece Rachel Clark; and six nephews Trent Garrison (Susan), Ray Garrison (Misty), Beau Rodriguez, Brian R Clark, Charlie Clark, and Josh Guthrie (Ashlie).
She was also blessed with great-nephews Cole Garrison (Abbie), Zeke Guthrie, Ezra Guthrie, Hayden Lawrence and Jamison Pemble; and great-nieces Heather Garrison, Brooke Garrison, Morgan Garrison, Lauren Garrison and Maddie Garrison; and last but not least, great-great-niece Ellie Beth Garrison.
Denise had a “what you see is what you get” philosophy of life. She was never interested in fashion, jewelry or makeup, although in her later years she always had her fingernails manicured and polished. She loved square dancing and was quite good at it. She could really make those petticoats twirl! She enjoyed movies of all kinds and had an extensive collection of VHS tapes and DVDs. Family was always extremely important to her and she looked forward to all family gatherings, especially those that revolved around Holidays.
Denise loved playing card games and board games with family and friends, and more often than not, she usually won! For the past 4 years, she especially enjoyed playing cards with her friends at Providence Village.
We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Shauna Petty, the Activities Director at Providence Village. She was a faithful friend in addition to her official duties, often making runs to Walmart for Diet Dr Pepper Strawberry & Cream, and painting fingernails when hands became unsteady. Thank you, Shauna.
We would also like to thank everyone at Providence Village for taking such good care of Denise, especially Brandi Medlock and Felicia, the 4th Floor Nursing Supervisor. Special thanks to Dr William Pitts, Tesa and staff at Waco Cardiology and the CHF Clinic. They went above and beyond the doctor/patient relationship, and knew just how to make Denise laugh.
