Dolores “Dutch” Collins, age 91, passed away peacefully in Waco, Texas on May 29, 2026. Born on September 15, 1934, Dutch was the daughter of LaVerne and Irene Herrick and was reared and educated in Hastings, Nebraska. A lifelong lover of learning, she graduated from Hastings College and devoted many years to teaching elementary school students, a calling she embraced with patience, kindness, and enthusiasm. A time to celebrate her life will be from 2-4pm. Sunday, May 31st at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
In July of 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Fred Collins, whom she affectionately called “Fritz” or “Freddy.” Their marriage was a beautiful partnership that lasted 57 years until his passing. Together they built a loving family.
Dutch was the ultimate hostess, always welcoming family and friends into her home with warmth and generosity. No visit was complete without homemade cookies or pie and a fresh cup of coffee waiting at the table. She treasured time spent with friends playing games such as Skip-Bo and mahjong and created lasting memories through simple moments shared together.
More than anything, Dutch loved her family deeply. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love and encouragement shaped generations. And while she always reassured everyone that she was “fine,” those who loved her can now smile knowing she is truly 100% and definitely fine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dona Krueger; her beloved husband, Fritz; her son, Dr. Scot Collins; and her grandson, Kyle Collins.
She is survived by her oldest son, Jon Collins and Jessica Cook, and Jon’s children Bob Collins, Brooks Collins and wife Ashley, and Seth Collins; Scot’s sons Tucker Collins and wife Leslie, Tanner Collins, and Brock Collins; and her youngest son, Rob Collins and wife Mandy, and their children Haley Lelio and husband Rob Lelio, parents of Robert and Daniel, and Mason Collins and wife Emma.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the General Education Scholarship Fund of P.E.O. Sisterhood, an organization Dutch faithfully supported for 52 years in its mission to advance educational opportunities for women. Contributions may be made through P.E.O. International by selecting Chapter HF/TX
