Don Jurgensen

Donald W. Jurgensen, age 89, of Waco, TX, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Eden House care facility. A Service of Celebration will be held at 4PM, Friday, September 14, 2012 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Memphis, TN.

Don was born on August 28, 1923 in Ihlen, Minnesota to Walter and Helen Jurgensen. After graduation from Pipestone High School he served in the US Navy during WWII, starting out as a pilot candidate until being diagnosed with a medical problem. He then continued his service as a mission traffic control officer on the island of Saipan in the Pacific theater. After the war, he returned to Millington Naval Air Station in Memphis, TN, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Krayer. They were married 65 years before her passing and were known for their dedication to church and family as well as a love for dancing. Don was a longtime servant of Christ at his home church of Christ the King where he was an elder and a Sunday school teacher. He received a law degree from Atlanta Law School while working for Delta Airlines. He retired in 1988 from Dover Elevator Corporation (now Thyssenkrupp).

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, in 2011, his parents and his sister, “Bonnie”.

Don is survived by his two sons, Don and wife, Debby, of Waco, TX and Mike and wife, Cindy, of Collierville, TN; a sister, Lois Sorenson, of Minneapolis, MN, and six grandchildren: Katy Svoboda and husband Sean, Josh and wife Julia, Luke and wife Caroline, Carrie Anne, Cathleen Bowie and husband Andrew, and Cassie Jurgensen as well as five great grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Woodway Missions, Woodway, TX, Peace Lutheran Church, Hewitt, TX or Christ the King Lutheran Church, Memphis TN.
