Obituary

Listen to Obituary
  1. Donald “Don” Montgomery passed away in Waco, Texas, on March 9, 2026, his 74th birthday. Born in Waco in 1952, Don was a lifelong Texan who dedicated his life to his family, friends, and his faith.

  2. A visitation in Don’s honor will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Minister Scott Talley officiating, with burial afterward at Valley Mills Cemetery.

  3. A natural athlete from a young age, Don grew up with a passion for football, baseball, and all things sports. He carried that competitive and team-oriented spirit into his adulthood. He attended Baylor University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, remaining a proud alumnus and lifelong Bear supporter.

  4. On August 9, 1974, Don married Jean Pritchard in Waco. Throughout their marriage, Don’s career with TXU took them to Killeen, Waco, Arlington, and Henderson, Texas.

  5. Don spent 43 years with TXU-Luminant, eventually serving as the Community Relations Director. He possessed a genuine gift for connection; he was just as comfortable sharing a laugh with the crew on the front lines as he was engaging with top executives.

  6. His professional life was mirrored by his civic heart. He was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce in Henderson and a faithful member of the Crestview Church of Christ. His faith was the compass that guided him, providing a firm foundation for his life.

  7. Don was a man of many interests. Whether he was on the golf course working on his short game, playing softball, traveling, or keeping up with the latest in politics and music, he approached every hobby with enthusiasm.

  8. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends.

  9. Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean Montgomery; his daughter, Meredith Ann; his parents, Edward and Winnie Faye Montgomery; and his brother-in-law, Don Kyser.

  10. He is survived by his son, Dustin Montgomery; his sister, Darlene Kyser; and his cherished friend, Margaret Erwin. His memory will also be kept alive by Sarah Buchanan, Matthew Willis, Addalynn Willis, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

  11. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lola for her exceptional care and support. Deep gratitude is also shared for his dedicated caregivers: Candace Limburg and Melanie at Right at Home.
