Doris Ruth (Stone) Buck

Doris Ruth (Stone) Buck passed away early Saturday morning, February 10, 2024, following a fall and a brief illness. A graveside memorial service and inurnment will be 2:00 pm. Saturday, February 17, 2024 at McGregor Cemetery with Mark Abbe officiating, under the direction of Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr., Waco.

Doris was born on March 22, 1934, in McGregor, Texas, the daughter of the late George Graham Stone and the late Myrtle (Cook) Stone. In 1952 she graduated from McGregor High School, and upon graduation was employed with the Bluebonnet Ordinance Plant, which later became Rocketdyne and later Hercules, doing various office work. On December 16, 1952, she married Billy Mack Buck in McGregor, whom she had dated since she was 13 and he was 16, going on to be married 68 years until his death on May 10, 2020. After leaving the work force briefly to be a full-time wife, and mother to Joel and Donna, Doris returned to work becoming the co-owner and operator of Town Printing & Office Supply, starting the business with Bill in their home in 1967, and later moving it to Main Street in 1974, managing the office and the office supply portion of the business until her retirement in January of 2010.

She was a former member of College Avenue Baptist Church in McGregor where she sang in the choir. She later joined Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco where she was a regular member of the Mixson Sunday School Class.

In her earlier years, in her spare time, she enjoyed sewing clothing for her family and also had a love of interior design, receiving a certificate of completion from LaSalle Extension University, Chicago, in Interior Design. In later years she enjoyed watching old westerns, binge-watching Netflix with Donna, and working crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Also preceding her in death was a son, Joel Buck, her husband of 68 years, Bill Buck, and Donna's fiancé, Jeff Straub.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Buck of McGregor, and special family friend, Mary Bestor of Waco.

Special thanks to the staff of Hillcrest Baylor Scott & White ICU and 6th Floor, particularly nurse Walter Lewis, the staffs of St. Anthony's Care Center and Bluebonnet Hospice, Mary Bestor, and Suzanne Strahan, for their exceptional care of Doris during her final weeks.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials be made to Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, or the charity of choice.
