Douglas Wade Smith, Sr.

Douglas Wade Smith went to join our Lord and supreme master on July 12, 2025, after a lengthy illness. He died at home surrounded by loved ones.

Douglas was born August 18, 1941, to Ophelia and Bee Smith in Pancake, Texas. He joined the Marine Corps in 1959 then returned to Waco, Texas and worked at Waco Meat Service where he made many lifelong friends.

Douglas is past master of Fidelis 1127 FM/AM lodge, past Worthy patron of Walter Baldwin EOS chapter and he is a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents Bee and Ophelia Smith, grandparents Roy and Roxie Lefever, daughter Annette Michele Smith Mulroney and in laws, who he considered his parents Charles and Thelma Ruhl.

Douglas is survived by beloved wife Peggy Smith, his children Donna Swift, Julie Smith, Douglas Wade Smith., JR and Bonnie of Whitney,Charles (Rob) Smith and wife Christie, Scott Smith and wife Trish, brother James Roy Smith and wife Lanni. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves a multitude of Masonic Brethren and Eastern Star sisters, and many lifelong friends.

The family wants to thank Dr’s. Arthur Sudan, Twyla Lovett, and Clay Barbin for their excellent care. And a special thanks to Jeromy, Corey, Kim, Theresa and all the caring staff at Interim Hospice. To all our friends who gave us support and prayers during this long journey we thank you.

At Douglas’s request there will be no funeral but the family will have a memorial at later date.
