Genovevo “Chino” Hernandez, devoted husband, father, brother, son, uncle, nephew, Pop Pop, and friend, passed away on June 24, 2025, in Waco, Texas, surrounded by his loved ones. Chino was born on February 22, 1980, in Ector County, Texas. He lived a life rooted in hard work, family, and community.
Chino was a devoted highway maintenance worker, serving from Georgetown to Fort Worth along I-35, where his contributions to the community were significant. His coworkers became like family to him, he was known for his loyalty, laughter and the way he looked out for those around him. He took part in opening Jorgensen in Waco, Texas, further demonstrating his commitment to his community.
He was a proud graduate of Permian High School, and his education was a great source of pride for him. More than just a worker, Chino was a man of passion and generosity. From a young age, he found joy in barbecuing, a love kindled when he was just 14 years old, and he also cherished the time spent farming alongside his granddaddy.
Chino had a heart for people, often going out of his way to give whatever he had, even if it meant sacrificing his own comforts.
