Listen to Obituary

Gregory Lynn Brenner, a man whose warmth, wisdom, wit, and unwavering devotion to family and country left a lasting mark on every life he touched, passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2025, in Woodway, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 1, 1946, in Waco, Texas, Greg led a life characterized by service to his country, to his community, and to his God.

He was a 1964 graduate of Richfield High School, where he was counted among the first class to attend all four years. He later attended Sam Houston State University and Baylor University. Later, he also became a life member of the VFW Post 2148, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Disabled American Veterans, showcasing his lifelong commitment to veterans' advocacy.

Greg served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968 during which he volunteered for combat deployment in the Vietnam War, a commitment that reflected his values of dedication and sacrifice. Following his military service, Greg embarked on a long and fulfilling career with the U.S. government, spending 24 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital and the U.S. Postal Service, both in Waco, Texas. He was proud to help those who served, ensuring that veterans received the respect and care they deserved.

A devoted husband for 56 years, Greg deeply loved his wife, Becka, with a steadfast and tender devotion that helped to define his life. From the moment he first saw her, singing in the choir at Grace Temple Baptist Church, he immediately fell in love – a love which never wavered. They were married soon after he returned home from Vietnam. Their marriage was a living example of partnership and grace—Greg never missed a chance to put Becka first, cherishing her comfort above his own and finding his greatest fulfillment in her happiness. Every decision he made, large or small, was guided by how it might make her smile, lighten her load, or brighten her day. Together, they built a home filled with spiritual faith, laughter, warmth, and lasting love. They raised two sons, Brandon and Derek in Robinson, Texas, instilling in them the Christian faith and the values of kindness, generosity, and strong sense of humor that Greg embodied. His sons followed his example: both as men of faith; Brandon, with his marriage to his wonderful wife, Christi, and his service with U.S. Post Office; Derek, with his service in the U.S. Navy.

As a grandfather, Greg found immense joy in his role. He delighted in the company of his favorite grandchildren: his favorite granddaughter, Miranda Brenner and her wife Leandra Scott, and their partner Brittany Pate; his favorite granddaughter, Victoria Brenner and her fiancé Chris Krampert; his favorite grandson, Skylyr Smallwood and his wife Latricia; his favorite grandson, Andrew Brenner and his fiancé Abby Nuñez; his favorite grandson, Chase Smallwood; his favorite grandson, Spencer Brenner and his wife Holly; and his favorite granddaughter, Tiffany Brendham and her husband Garrett, as well as his favorite bonus granddaughter, Maggie Glover-Brenner. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and their accomplishments brought him much pride. His great-grandchildren, Rue, Pearl, Bekkah, and Romina, were a source of boundless joy, bringing light into his life.

Greg was well-known for his quick wit, generous spirit, keen mind, and intuitive nature, always ready to lend a helping hand. He was an active member of the community, showing his compassion through programs like Meals on Wheels and participating in the Thursday morning breakfast club at George's in Hewitt. An avid fan of Lady Bears basketball, he valued his season tickets and enjoyed every moment spent cheering on his team, often in the company of friends and family.

His faith was ever-present in his life as he was a previous deacon and also a long-time member of Brazos Meadows Baptist Church in Hewitt, where he found solace and community among fellow believers. He often reflected the teachings of his faith in his actions, making everyone around him feel appreciated, loved, and cared for.

Greg leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and laughter, embodying the best of what it means to be a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife Becka; their sons Brandon and Derek; daughter-in-law Christi; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as a multitude of other family and friends who will forever remember his joyful spirit.

He is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Brenner, Sr.; mother, Hazel Brenner; sister, Shirley Estes; and brothers, Robert Brenner and Herb Brenner, Jr.

His family invites all who knew Greg to celebrate his extraordinary life. A visitation will be held on October 23, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Woodway, TX. A funeral service will take place the following day, October 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM, also at Grace Gardens.
