Washburn
March 11, 1958 — July 15, 2026
Guy Alan Washburn, 68, currently of Waco, TX died peacefully at home on hospice services with family at his side on July 15, 2026.
Born March 11, 1958, in Norwalk, OH to Margaret Gene and Hollie Harrison Washburn, Sr., Guy’s sense of humor and positive attitude in the face of adversity, left a lasting impression on those he met throughout the chapters of his life.
Early years in Ohio included attending school at Maplehurst Elementary where he played baseball and Norwalk Middle School where he played football. After moving to Indiana in 1972, he attended Eastern Hancock High School where he was a member of the drama club and swim team obtaining his lifeguard certification. Injured in a catastrophic automobile accident in his senior year of high school, Guy completed his studies while in rehabilitation and was able to join his classmates for graduation in May of 1976. After graduation, he started his college education at Ball State University in Muncie, IN.
After working for several years in Indiana, he relocated to Abilene, TX where he went to work for Typewriter Sales as a service technician. He continued his education at Cisco Jr. College and TSTC Abilene campus concentrating on technical/computer studies. While living in Abilene, he played wheelchair basketball with the Abilene High Rollers basketball team.
In 1991, Guy relocated to California where he lived most of his adult life. He started his career with Lockheed Martin in Ontario, CA living in San Bernadino. When the facility was relocated to Palmdale, CA, he moved to Rosamond. He worked as an Instrumentation Engineer for Lockheed Martin for 26 years before retiring due to health concerns. While living in Rosamond, he purchased a customized, handicapped accessible trike and rode with the High Desert Trikers where he was a longstanding member. The three wheeled motorcycle group enjoyed going on rides, attending car and bike shows as well as participating in local parades. He also enjoyed attending both minor and major league baseball games. After retiring from Lockheed in 2017, he moved to Lancaster, CA then subsequently to Waco, TX.
Guy is survived by his brother Hollie H. Washburn, Jr. (Danita), his sister Beverly G. Burch (Mack), nieces Tabatha Messer (Jamie), Kaitlynn Washburn, and nephews Douglas Snyder and Joshua Snyder.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hollie H. Washburn Sr. and Margaret Tudor Washburn as well as his nephew Guy David Washburn.
Per Guy’s instructions, there will be no service held. His request was for cremation and for his remains to be returned to California which he continued to consider home until the time of his passing. As was his desire, his remains will be spread at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve.
