Ima was born to William Wesley and Lola Pearl Walker on November 30, 1933. She graduated from Chilton High School in 1950. She attended 4C Business College in Waco and soon entered the workforce. As a young girl, she was gifted with a beautiful voice such that she even made a record, continuing her love for singing and music.
Louie Lavon Walter married his “blonde headed, blue eyed sweetheart” on May 25, 1952. Ima will be remembered for the great love she had for her husband, Louie. They had a loving relationship that was unique to them. Louie adored his wife. He was the head of the house, but everyone knew Ima was in charge. They loved to camp, especially with other family members. They were often gone weeks at a time enjoying cooking, fishing, playing dominoes and visiting until late in the evening. In addition, many hours were spent at Heart of Texas Speedway watching Louie, his brothers and their own sons racing on the track.
Her passion undoubtably was her family. The holidays were chaotic with all five kids, their spouses, grandkids and great grandkids. She thrived in the chaos always cooking, visiting, and making sure all were loved.
Ima was an incredible woman that found great joy in serving others. She served her community as a seamstress, wedding cake maker and as a compassionate friend. She and Louie served the Lord in the Sunshine Class at the First United Methodist Church in McGregor. They loved to get to church early to make coffee for everyone. Ima also served on the Benevolence Committee and provided food to countless families in their time of grief. It was said that you could ask Ima to help in any way and she would always say yes.
Most of all, Ima will be remembered for her unconditional love and grace she showed to family, friends and whomever her kids brought into her home. Ima will be missed, but her impact on us will last the rest of our lives.
