Affectionately known as “JD” to family and friends, he was adventurous, fun-loving, and a man who could fix anything. He was driven to excel, taking that spirit to gymnastics at an early age. JD competed on the State, Region, and Junior Olympic level, winning many top awards. He learned discipline and balanced school with numerous hours of practice in the gym.
JD also loved the outdoors, trying his and in FFA raising a goat named Bubba. He was very mechanically inclined, building go-carts and rebuilding riding lawnmowers, and working on cars / trucks and even Model T classics. Education was important to JD. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Tarleton State University, graduating magna cum laude. He also received a Master of Science from Texas A&M in Biomedical Science with a focus on endocrine toxicology.
JD founded his own business and as a general contractor built and restored homes and businesses throughout Texas. He even built pantry shelving in our family home in Crawford.
In his spare time, he spent time together with friends, enjoyed beach volleyball, and learned how to dance, focusing on the West Coast Swing. He was a Texan to his core.
He is survived by his mother Melodie Holloway and Stepfather Clark Holloway, sister Marissa Hunt, Father Mark Hunt and wife Marcie, his grandmother Sherlain “Shirley” Schmidt, half-sisters Jessica Holloway, Victoria Aguas, Jessica Showgreen, Alexa and Tatum Hunt, cousins Jase and Devyn Schmidt, their mother Shannon Reynolds and spouse Phil Reynolds, his loyal dog Steel, aka “Bob”, along with many friends he considered brothers.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather James W Schmidt, uncle Jay Schmidt, and half-brother Dawson Hunt, and beloved dog Bailey.
A service to honor JD will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Crawford, TX. A time of visitation with refreshments will follow in the fellowship hall.
