Janet Randle Dethrow, 81, passed away on May 6, 2026, at Lynridge Assisted Living and Memory Care in Waco, Texas. She was born April 30, 1945, in Wichita, Kansas, to Herbert and Dorothy May Shrack Randle.

Janet was born and raised on the family farm south of Pratt, Kansas. She attended the one-room Fairview Schoolhouse in Pratt County, KS, for her first 8 years, then graduated from Pratt High School, class of 1963. Janet was active in the Fairview Go-Getters 4-H club, earning Pratt County and Kansas State Fair awards for her sewing, cooking, and rearing livestock. While in high school she played the piano, was a member of Job’s Daughters, and worked part-time at a local bank .t was also during those years that she met Dewey, the love of her life.

She later earned an associate’s degree in Secretarial Administration from Emporia State University (formerly Kansas State Teachers College) and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She married James Dewey Dethrow on August 7, 1965, at the First Methodist Church in Pratt, and they shared 60 faithful, wonderful years together.

After moving to Dallas, Texas, Janet was a stay-at-home mom to her three young children. She was active in the PTA and faithfully supported her children in their education, games, and activities. In later years, she served as a longtime school secretary in several schools and eventually retired from Richardson (TX) ISD schools. Janet was an active member of P.E.O. (chapters EZ and CD) a philanthropical education organization, for 60 years and helped organize and preside over three chapters in North Texas. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed sharing her interest in family genealogy. Janet was lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and a faithful believer in Christ and who lived a fruitful life and served her family, friends, and God very well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Dorothy May Randle and a brother, William Charles “Bill” Randle.

Janet is survived by her devoted husband, Dewey; her son, Scott Randle Dethrow of San Marcos, Texas; her daughter, Dana Louise Dethrow Vaughn of Lorena, Texas; and her son, John David “JD” Dethrow and wife, Erin Elizabeth Boyd Dethrow, of Waco, Texas. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Jill Vaughn, Garrett Vaughn, Reid Dethrow, and Brewer Dethrow.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Home and Crematorium, 8220 Woodway Drive, Woodway, Texas. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Preston Bend Cemetery near Lake Texoma.
