Janet Powell

Janet Marie Powell, age 70, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma.
Janet was born in Richland, Washington, on July 17, 1954, to Kenneth and Gloria (Hascher) Holtzinger. She graduated from Baylor University in 1976, with a BS in Biology. She met Philip while in college, and they married on May 22,1976. They recently celebrated their 49th anniversary. Together they raised two children, Amanda and Brandon.
Janet was never one to be idle. She worked as a medical technologist in Houston and as an annuities specialist in Waco before retiring. She loved to travel the world, take cruises with family and friends, and spend time with her 3 granddaughters. She enjoyed reading and spending time in the garden. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority from 1990 until her passing.
Above all else, Janet had a steadfast faith and abundant love for the Lord. She was a member of Renew Church and continued to attend services on Sundays until the week before her passing. Janet participated in numerous Bible Study groups, often more than one at a time.
She had a servant's heart and loved doing for others. Volunteer work for the girls at Trinity Home of Faith was especially important to her, as was reading with children at Parkdale Elementary School through the Stars Book Club program.
Janet is survived by her devoted husband, Philip Powell; daughter, Amanda Whitley (WW); son, Brandon (Mary); granddaughters, Madelyn, Evelyn, and Blakelyn Whitley; sister, Susan Hughes (Billy); sister-in-law, Eva Vokes (Barry); many wonderful nieces and nephews and their families; and her best friend, Judy Wilcox (Steve).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ken and Gloria Holtzinger, and her mother- and father-in-law, Dorothy and Barron Ramsey Powell.
