Jewel “Judy” Oleta Carriger Flippin, 86, of Robinson, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26. On Friday, February 27, a graveside service will be held at Eastlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Brownwood, Texas. Visitation location along with service times will be updated in the coming weeks.

Judy was born to parents Joe and Della Carriger in Brownwood, TX, on June 26, 1939. The youngest of five siblings, Maebelle, James, Johnny, and Donnie Carriger, Judy graduated from Brownwood High School in 1957. After high school, Judy moved to San Angelo to attend business school with a childhood friend. While in San Angelo, she crossed paths with James Flippin, who was stationed there in the United States Air Force. From the moment she saw James, she knew that they were meant for each other. James and Judy married in January 1961.

James’s career in the Air Force moved them to many locations. They spent time in Brownwood, where they had their first son, James Jr., in 1961, followed by stints in Maryland and Okinawa, Japan, where their second son, Jerald, was born in 1965. Following James’s time in the service, Judy and James settled in Robinson, TX, in 1974. Judy was a gifted seamstress; she ran a custom drapery business with her sister-in-law and retired from Hancock Fabrics of Waco.

Judy is preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, Joe and Della; sister, Maebelle Fuller; and brothers, James, Johnny, and Donnie Carriger.

She is survived by sons James Flippin Jr. and the mothers of his children, Melissa Heley and Dawn Flippin; Jerald “Jerry” Flippin and wife, Polly; grandchildren Jessica Benner and husband Nate, Crystal Johnson and husband Larry, Matthew Flippin, Zachary Flippin, and Mason Flippin; great-grandchildren Alexis Herrera, Konnor Neville, Caleb Neville and Alyssa Gustafson, Larry James Johnson, and Levi Flippin; along with several nieces and nephews.

Judy was deeply devoted to her family. Gran will be greatly missed by all those who knew her as we cherish the time we had with her.
