Jody Harley

Jody S. Harley age 51, passed away on Thursday September 27, 2012 at a local hospital. Memorial Services will be 5:30PM Monday October 1, 2012 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel.

Jody was born on May 25, 1961 in Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico to Frederic and Shirley Harley. After moving around a few years as part of a Navy family, he settled in Virginia Beach, VA, graduating from Princess Anne High School in 1979. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1980, serving with honor and distinction for 24 years before retiring in 2004. As an Electronic Warfare Technician, he maintained many of our country’s critical capabilities, notably COMPASS CALL and BIG SAFARI. His assignments took him throughout the United States, Okinawa Japan, and the Middle East for Operations DESERT STORM/DESERT SHIELD. He married Virginia Byrn in 1980, raising four children: Melanie, Jessica, Sarah, and Jacob. After his retirement Jody remained in Waco, TX working for L-3 Communications on the C-130 aircraft he maintained while in the Air Force. Family, friends and co-workers remember Jody as an intelligent guy who was a whiz with electronics and enjoyed bringing fun to his job. Jody also enjoyed fishing, talking about his grandchildren, and his riding lawnmower.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Angstadt Harley.

Jody is survived by his wife, Virginia Harley; his daughter Melanie Harley, his daughter Jessica Harley, his daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Mike Seror, and his son Jacob Harley; his father Frederic Stahl Harley; his brother Jeffrey Harley, and his sisters Jeannine Gunnoe and Julie Ghassab; and his two grandchildren, Dylan and Avalynn Seror.

Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memoriam to the American Cancer Society.
