John Vincent Maresh, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age of 88 in Waco, Texas. Born on January 25, 1937, in Temple, Texas, John was a man of remarkable intellect and warmth, whose presence enriched the lives of those around him.
John’s academic journey was distinguished; he graduated as the valedictorian of Temple High School before earning his degree from Baylor University in 1959, majoring in psychology with a minor in Greek. He went on to forge a successful career as a senior underwriter for Southwestern Life Insurance, where his keen analytical mind and unwavering dedication made a lasting impact.
A man defined by his quirky and versatile personality, John could engage anyone in conversation, capable of discussing a myriad of topics with insight and humor. He had an innate ability to connect with people, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met through his genuine interest in their lives.
In addition to his professional achievements, John had a deep commitment to serving others. His spirit of volunteerism was evident as he dedicated time at Baylor Scott and White and Providence, as well as the ABC Animal Clinic. He also volunteered at SPCA of Texas in Dallas and Operation Kindness. His passion for helping those in need showcased his compassionate nature and wide-ranging interests.
John delighted in travel, immersing himself in different cultures and experiences. He was also an avid reader, especially History, often found with a book in hand, passionately exploring new ideas and stories. His love for the gym demonstrated his belief in maintaining both physical and mental wellness, showcasing the vibrant energy he carried throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved brother, Bill Maresh and wife Joyce; his cherished nieces, Michael Ann Miller and husband Mark, and Missi Maresh Young and husband Jonathan; as well as his great nieces and nephews, Blake Miller, Brooke Countryman and husband Cary, and great-great nephew Ian Countryman. John will also be remembered fondly by his faithful friend, Clarence, who stood by him through both joy and challenge.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest "Si" and Della Maresh, and his sister-in-law, Barbara Maxey Maresh. Their love and guidance shaped the foundation of his character, and their memories will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we remember John, we celebrate a life lived fully and passionately—a man whose laugh was infectious, whose kindness knew no bounds, and whose legacy of love and service will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.
