Larry Stokes

Larry Stokes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, at the age of 76. He was born on October 4, 1949, in Tyler, Texas.

To his family, Larry was affectionately known as “Papa,” a name that carried with it the warmth, kindness, and love he gave so freely. He was a man who loved his family deeply and unconditionally. He was the kind of husband, father and grandfather who would do anything to protect the people he loved and most of all, to see them smile. His family was always his greatest joy and his highest priority.

Larry shared 47 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Diane. They were married on June 28, 1979, and together they built a life centered around faith, family, and love. They raised five children, who went on to bless them with 15 grandchildren. While we always knew the place Jesus held in his heart, his greatest love here on earth was and will forever be his wife, Diane. Not a day went by that he didn’t express his love, devotion, and deep admiration for her. He loved her wholeheartedly, and the life they built together was rooted in a love that was steadfast, unwavering, and true. That love became the foundation of our family, and the example he set in the way he cherished her will forever guide us in how we love, honor, and care for one another. Their love is a legacy that will live on through all of us.

Larry was a God-loving man whose faith was at the center of his life. He spent much of his time studying God’s Word and sharing His love with everyone he encountered. Family members and strangers alike could see something special in Larry—a light that came through in his kindness, gentleness, and genuine care for others. He served as a Bible study leader at his church and found great joy in helping others grow in their faith.

Larry was a talented musician. He played both piano and guitar by ear and had a beautiful singing voice. Music was another way he shared his joy with the people around him, leaving behind memories that his family will cherish for years to come.

Larry will be remembered not only for the things he did, but for the way he made people feel: loved, welcomed, protected, and cared for. His gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and devotion to his family will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Aspen Hospice for the compassionate and attentive care they provided Larry during his final days. They would also like to offer a special thank you to Suzie Barton, pastor and dear friend to Larry and Diane, for her prayers, love, and unwavering support throughout their journey. Her friendship and care meant more to them than words can express.

Larry leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and will carry his memory, his faith, and his love with them always.

A memorial service honoring Larry’s life will be held on September 10, 2026, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Woodway, Texas. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 3:00 p.m.
