Leta Joyce Gunn

In loving memory of Leta Joyce Gunn, a remarkable woman who touched the hearts of many with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Joyce passed away on April 14, 2024, in Stoney Brook, Hewitt, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will be cherished forever.

Born on January 29, 1938, Joyce lived a life filled with dedication to her family and a passion for helping others. Her career as an executive assistant to the chairman of the business management department at Baylor University's Hankamer Business School was a source of pride for her. However, Joyce found true joy in being a devoted stay-at-home mom and supporting her children through their journeys in education.

Known for her business acumen, Joyce ventured into various fields such as bookkeeping, banking, and insurance early in her marriage. Her determination and tenacity were evident in all aspects of her life.

Joyce had a heart of gold and was always eager to lend a helping hand. She found happiness in cooking and baking for others and welcomed children's friends into her home with open arms. She accepted her children's mates as her own children. She often became a surrogate mother for the student workers at Baylor. Always a true advocate for the underdog, Joyce's compassion knew no bounds.

Aside from her professional accomplishments, Joyce was most proud of raising her children, and that they are people of integrity and character.  She was their biggest driving force in achieving higher education. This accomplishment encapsulated her devotion to ensuring a bright future for her family.

Joyce's vibrant personality shone through in every interaction; she was described as sweet, feisty, intelligent, hard-working, dependable, and a true overcomer. Her love for reading, spending time with her beloved kitty, Willow, staying informed on current events, and engaging in devotionals showcased her diverse interests.

In this time of mourning, Joyce is survived by her cherished children David Wayne Gunn and wife, Cynthia,  Brenda Sue Gunn Lewis, and husband, Chris; adored grandchildren Brian Christopher Lewis and wife, Mari, Holly Mae Lewis and fiancé Samuel Cox, Joel Gunn and wife, Leslie, Julia West and husband, Madison; three great grandchildren; cousin, Nancy Jane Munson and husband, Jack; special friends Ozella and Freddie Henderson; sister-in-law Joan Sides; as well as the memory of her beloved husband, Donald; parents, Willie Standford and Paul Sides;   brother, Paul Gerald Sides; and daughter-in-law, Gina Gunn.
