Lois Yarbrough Ambelang, 83, of Lorena, TX, passed away on April 14, 2026, after a life defined by generosity, faith, and service to others.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Lois lived in Indiana, Wisconsin, and spent many of her later years in Texas. Wherever she went, she left a lasting impression on those around her. If Lois had $5 and you needed $6, she would find a way to give you $7. That spirit of giving was not just something she said—it was how she lived every single day.

Lois dedicated her career to caring for others as a registered nurse, serving in nursing homes, hospice, cancer units, and beyond. She brought compassion, dignity, and comfort to countless patients and families during their most vulnerable moments. Nursing was not just her profession—it was her calling.

She is survived by her son, Joel Mark Ambelang and his wife, Jill, and their children Meaghan, Matt, and Mark; her daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Ambelang Jackson and her husband, Tony, and their children Madelyn and Sydney; and her son-in-law, Robert Whitehead, and granddaughter Seoul. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Yarbrough and his wife, Linda; her niece Laura Roloff; her nephew Scott; her sister, Janet Yarbrough; and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Harold Yarbrough and Ethel Marie Lippmann Yarbrough, and her daughter, Kym Ambelang Whitehead.

Lois took immense pride in her grandchildren and extended family and deeply cherished every moment spent with them. Being together was what she loved most.

Beyond her work, Lois was an incredibly talented and passionate seamstress. She was an excellent and avid sewer and spent many years creating beautiful pieces through machine embroidery—gifts of love that will be treasured for years to come. She had a joyful spirit, loved to laugh (especially with her Austin friend, Betty Bybee!), and found great comfort in her lifelong love of dogs.

Above all, Lois lived a faithful life, grounded in love, humility, and service. She gave freely, loved deeply, and made the world better simply by being in it.

A celebration of life will be held in St. Louis on a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Gentiva Hospice and St. Joseph’s Care Center for the comfort and dignity they provided.

The world feels a little less warm without her—but her love, her laughter, and her way of caring for others will live on in all of us.
