Lowell Ray Cox was born December 14, 1942, to Raymond Lee Cox and Beulah Mae Cox in Ada, Oklahoma. They would eventually move to Madill, Oklahoma, when he was in the 6th grade, where he would finish out his childhood years.

In high school, Lowell was a state champion three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track. He spent his summers on Lake Texoma as a lifeguard and water ski instructor. Upon graduation, he received a track scholarship to attend East Central University, where he pursued a coaching and teaching degree while competing in the 100m, long jump, and pole vault.

His college pastime was rodeo, and he would eventually become President of the Durant Rodeo Association while competing in bull and bronc riding in the IRA. Upon leaving college, he joined a dive team in the Gulf, where he became an underwater welder building oil rigs.

Somewhere along the way, he developed a love for horses and, with his athletic background, poured his passion for competition and athletic skill into a 35-year career in Quarter Horse racing.

After retiring from the racing field, he went back to school and obtained his nursing degree, where he would finish his working years caring for the elderly. Lowell loved to hunt and loved the water. He spent his time off hunting in South Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico, or in a boat on the lake. He was full of life and definitively unique.

A celebration of life service will be held May 30th 2026 @ the China Spring Tabernacle Community Center at 1pm. Come & join us in remembering him.
