Lu Ann Campbell

November 18, 1941 — June 11, 2025

Lu Ann Campbell, 83, of Waco, Texas passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on June 11, 2025. A visitation in her honor will be Monday, June 16, 2025 from 5-7pm at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery.

Lu Ann was born on November 18, 1941 in Bay City, TX, the youngest of 9 children. After graduating from San Augustine High School in 1959, she attended dental hygiene school at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston, where she met her husband Ronnie.

Lu Ann was lucky to have found a second calling later in life. What began as volunteer work for hospice turned into a passion and career that touched the lives of many. She furthered her education and received a degree from Baylor University in 1990, followed by a master’s in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington. Lu Ann received many awards in recognition of her achievements and service throughout her career.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures- solving the daily crossword, playing bridge, dominoes, and puzzling. Lu Ann loved watching sports, cheering for her children, grandchildren, and the Baylor Women’s Basketball team.

Above all else, Lu Ann’s love for the Lord and steadfast faith served as a foundation for the way she lived life. Whether it was participating in Bible studies, joyfully singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school or volunteering in the nursery, her abundant love for the Lord proved a life lived for the sake of the Gospel.

Lu Ann is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Oma Hargrove, her loving husband Dr. James Ronald Campbell, her grandson Clay Austin Whitten, her brothers Harold Hargrove, Waltereed Hargrove and Jacko Hargrove, her sisters Johnnie “Sister” Cloud, Omagene Hargrove, Dorothy “Babyjane” Butterfras and Carrie “Tootsie” Olsen.

Lu Ann is survived by her daughter Kathy Campbell, her son James Matthew Campbell and her daughter Carrie Campbell Babin and husband Hank Babin, granddaughters Makayla Campbell, Logan Babin, Campbell Babin, Lilly Babin, and Chloe Babin, her brother Jesse Hargrove, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Blake at Waco and Harbor Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Lu Ann. Memorial donations can be made to Harbor Hospice or a charity of your choice.
