Lynne Hanlin

December 18, 1946 — February 13, 2024

Patricia Lynne Hanlin, beloved aunt and sister, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024 with
her niece Terri by her side.

Lynne was born December 18, 1946 in Houston, TX to Harold & Katie Prather. She married Walter
Hanlin on October 20, 1973 and the pair were married just shy of 46 years before his passing in
June 2019. Although she was never able to have children of her own, she ‘adopted’ her nieces and
nephew attending as many life events as she could acting as a bonus grandma. She moved to Waco from
Splendora to be closer to family after the death of her mother and sister. In 2020, following the
death of her husband she moved in with her niece Terri and family until her declining health
required the care of a long term facility which she found at Royal Manor. For Aunt Lynne, family
meant everything and she cherished every single moment spent creating memories.

In her younger life, she was a pioneer for women in the workforce of finance that was greatly
dominated by men at the time. Having several positions in her 20s and 30s, she spent the majority
of her career at Greater Houston Hospital Council, climbing the corporate ladder from bookkeeper to
eventually Vice President,CFO. Her position allowed her to offer several of her nieces summer jobs
where they developed advanced office skills they still use today. For that they are forever
grateful.

Known mostly throughout her family and even some friends as “Aunt Lynne”, those closest to her knew
her to be a beautiful artist. A love which she passed down through generations, and most recently
to her great nieces Ashley and Mikhayla. Paint was her favorite medium and multiple framed pieces
of her art hung in her sister Gayle’s house for years. She always downplayed her skill but we all
thought it was excellent. Especially the flowers.

While not a performance artist herself, she also had a great love for this artform. Known in the
family as their own personal Blockbuster with no late fees, it is fondly remembered by her nieces
and nephew, of the weekly walk across the street to “check out” their own selections for the
weekend.
She collected all genres, (even indulging Uncle Walt with a few dubbed Kung Fu movies) but her
favorite were the love stories and musicals.

An avid animal lover her whole life (especially dogs), Lynne deeply enjoyed having inside animals
when she moved in with Terri and Bruce and she insisted on spoiling them rotten with treats and
pets. She never saw a dog she didn’t like, and had a knack for getting them to do what she wanted.
Especially Terri’s dog, Sazh, who loved her (and her plethora of treats).

In her final days, Lynne was surrounded by loved ones and spent her last waking moments smiling in
the presence of family. She served a different role to so many, a loving wife, a generous aunt, a
bonus grandma, a steadfast sister, and a mother of the heart.

Lynne was preceded in death by her mother Katie Gregory, husband Walt and youngest sister Gayle
McCarron. She is survived by her sister Kaye Mitchell and husband Kenneth, her beloved nieces and
nephew: Kimberly Doreck and husband Bren, Terri Evans and husband Bruce, Kathryn Osteen and husband
Clint, Toni Solis and husband Joel, Nathan McCarron and wife Jocelyn, Petra Williams and

husband Judson, and deeply cherished great-nephews, James & Andrew Osteen, Chandler Evans, Joseph
Doreck, William Osteen and David Solis and great-nieces, Mikhayla Gustafson, Kristana Hughes,
Ashley Solis, and Ivalee and Elowyn Williams. (and of course, beloved great nephew dog, Sazh,
woof!)
