Mary Scott

Mary Lois Ruffin Scott of Hewitt, Texas, a vibrant and proud mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother went peacefully to be with the Lord at her residence surrounded by loved ones on September 20, 2026, at the age of 81. Mary was born in Bastrop, Louisiana, and was the daughter of Buell Edgar Ruffin and Myrtis Marie Gray. 

Mary started as a dispatcher, then moved to Patrol Deputy and finally Sergeant for the Lafayette Parish Sherriff’s Office in Louisiana and was one of the first female Sergeants on patrol in that state. She then became a twenty-plus-year member of the sales team with Aflac and Carlyn Group in the State of Texas. After retirement, she worked at Walmart as a cashier for a couple of years.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers and sisters, Curtis Ruffin, Elizabeth Blackwell, Dorothy Smith, Butch Ruffin, Carolyn DuPont, Frances Bullock, Roger Ruffin and Connie Ruffin. 

She is survived by her daughters Mary Scott Richardson and her husband Richard of Hewitt, Sherrie Scott Bourgoyne and her husband Brett, and sons Andrew DeWayne Scott and Bradley Steven Scott; her sister Helen Ruffin-Chambers, as well as numerous beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her great joy and happiness.
