Michael Roy Yoakum

March 27, 1945 — November 4, 2021

Lorena, Texas

MICHAEL ROY YOAKUM, born March 27, 1945 in Waco Texas, passed away at home on November 4, 2021 due to complications from Covid. “Mike” was raised in Waco, and a longtime resident of neighboring Lorena, Texas.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Newell Foye and Bettie Mae Uzzell Yoakum, his sister Carol Ann Rivera, and a wife Ann Pugh Yoakum.  Survivors include his wife of seven years,  Barbara Blanton Yoakum, son Michael Allen Yoakum and wife Nancy, daughters Misty Diserens and husband Richard and Cheryl Yoakum and friend Bobby, stepsons Larry Sharp and wife Sylvia and Darrell Sharp and wife JoAnne.

He also leaves behind his brother Lamar Yoakum of Hawaii, sisters Shirley Swimmer and husband Darrell of Oklahoma and Robbye Rusek and husband Peter of Waco, numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Mike’s legacy continues with grandchildren Joshua Yoakum, Jaime Schanke, Ryan Huggins, Wyatt Smith, Brittany Diserens, Jacob Smith, Landon Diserens and Kevin Sharp and great-grandchildren Wade, Skylar, Raylen, Waylen, Evelyn, Twila, Nikk, Jase, Reise, Georgia, & Zoe.

Mike will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends, including his classmates from Midway High School, fellow car enthusiasts from all across Central Texas and constant companion Willie, his Boston terrier.  Long time friends, Billy and Dorothy Spivey.

Mike loved working on old cars, fixing them and doing paint & body work.  His able hands could “fix” almost anything and his straightforward demeanor and personality were a breath of fresh air to all who knew him. He was an avid reader and always had his Kindle in his hand.  Many would say Mike was a “good ol’ boy”—which, in this day and time, has negative, stereotypical connotations for some people. But that was not the kind of good ol’ boy Mike was; instead, Mike embodied everything positive in the phrase: an easy going, hardworking, honest gentleman, who preferred the simple life.  The world could use more “good ol’ boys” like Mike.
