With hearts full of gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we remember Olivia Guerra—fondly known as Chica—who passed away at home in Bruceville, Texas, surrounded by the enduring love of her family, on August 6, 2026. Olivia's remarkable journey began over 92 years ago, on January 6, 1934, in Yorktown, Texas. She graced this world with a warmth and devotion that never wavered, and her memory will forever echo in the lives she touched.

Born Olivia Guzman, her story is one of resilience, generosity, and joy woven through the fabric of family and community. The daughter of Juan and Maria Guzman, both now rested, Olivia’s early years were rooted in care and hard work. She was a dedicated cotton farmer who knew the value of every sunrise in the field and the peace that comes from honest labor. Her spirit and work ethic never faded, and she later devoted herself to housekeeping, always carrying dignity into whatever she did.

Olivia was known as a strong woman with a deep faith—a strict Catholic who held her beliefs close to her heart. Her life was guided by the values of her Catholic faith, and she worked tirelessly to raise her family to be strong Catholics as well, teaching them through both her words and her example. Through her steadfast commitment to God, Olivia helped her loved ones understand the importance of prayer, family, and living with purpose.

Olivia’s zest for life was as boundless as her compassion. Nothing brought her more happiness than the company of her loved ones. Whether it was on the dance floor swaying to her favorite tunes or singing along to beloved conjunto music, her laughter was infectious and her presence a steady light. Olivia was gifted with nimble hands and a creative heart; she enjoyed sewing and knitting, creating warmth and comfort for those dear to her. Above all, family was her greatest joy. Each weekend, she made it her mission to travel across Texas, ensuring that no relative felt forgotten, weaving strong bonds that keep her spirit alive in every embrace and shared memory.

Her devotion to family lives on in her children: Michaela Guerra, Rose Mary Guerra, and Bobby Joe Guerra, who carry her lessons of strength and kindness close to their hearts. Her grandchildren—Stephanie, Bridgett, Brittany, and Christal—knew her as a source of endless love and gentle guidance. Olivia cherished her siblings; her sisters Julia Johnson and Sovieda Vela, and her brother Simon Guzman, remain as keepers of shared stories and laughter. Her legacy continues with numerous great and great great grandchildren. Those who preceded Olivia in passing—her loving husband, Lupe Guerra, her father Juan Guzman, her mother Maria Guzman, and her son-in-law Rick Reyes—surely welcomed her with open arms, reunited once more.

To have known Olivia was to witness the quiet heroism of a woman who gave as much as she could, who traveled any distance to show her love, and who counted her blessings with every hand she held. Her legacy is one of connection, music, and unwavering Catholic faith, rooted in the love she gave and the family she helped strengthen.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Olivia’s life. A visitation will be held on August 11, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Grace Gardens Funeral Home & Crematorium in Woodway, Texas. A Mass in her honor will take place at 11:00 am on August 12, 2026, at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Waco, Texas. Following Mass, Olivia will be laid to rest at Moody Cemetery in Moody, Texas, at 12:30 pm.

As we say goodbye to our beloved Chica, we are comforted by the tapestry of memories she has left us: a testament to the power of unwavering love, silent sacrifices, and the music of a wholehearted life. Her radiant spirit will remain with us, now and always.
