Pamela Marcum was born on January 21, 1953, in Big Spring, Texas, the youngest of three daughters, born to Dr. Carl Marcum and Veronica Marcum, and known affectionately as “The Three Marcum Girls.” In her home on December 12, 2025, Pamela unexpectedly fell into her next adventure. Dear friends already miss her quick wit, amazing mind, and endearing ways.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, February 26, at the Baylor Club in Waco, Texas, Suite Lounge, Level 400. The come-and-go reception is from 2pm to 4pm with Remembrances at 3pm.
Pamela attended school from first grade through graduation in the Big Spring Independent School District, graduating in 1971. She began higher education at Howard County Community College before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. While at UT, Pamela distinguished herself not only academically but also athletically, competing as a member of the University of Texas Women’s Golf Team. Golf remained a lifelong passion, joined by other athletic pursuits, including softball and fishing.
Committed to service, Pamela began her professional career with Big Brothers Big Sisters in Austin. During this time, she pursued advanced studies at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, completing a Master’s in Social Work. With her graduate degree in hand, she moved to Waco, where she served adults and children for 38 years as a therapist and later became director of MHMR’s Klaras Children’s Center. Those around her had a deep respect for her compassion, professionalism, and unwavering integrity.
Those who knew Pamela describe her as kind, wise, and deeply trustworthy. She was an excellent listener—analytical, non-judgmental, and thoughtful in her responses. Pamela was popular yet entirely herself, unconcerned with pretense and guided instead by authenticity. Her quick, dry wit and sharp political mind—honed through avid reading and constant learning—made conversations with her both engaging and memorable.
Pamela became an enthusiastic home cook, teaching herself through cooking shows, well-loved cookbooks, and hands-on experimentation. Above all, she was a loyal friend, valuing strong relationships and showing up with quiet constancy and care.
Pamela is survived by her husband, Bill Crowden, her sister, Candy Marcum, and nephew Toby Wall. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Erin Marcum Wall. The family extends special gratitude to Pamela’s former colleagues and dear friends Elizabeth Burnett and Carol Salvesen, whose friendship and love meant so much to her.
Pamela Marcum will be remembered for her wisdom, compassion, integrity, and the steady goodness she brought into the lives of all who knew her. Gifts in lieu of flowers will be appreciated by Klaras Children’s Center, Planned Parenthood of Central Texas, or other charities of choice.
