Paula Dean Garakani, a cherished mother, devoted wife, and talented seamstress, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, at her home in McGregor, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 7, 1954, in Waco, Texas, Paula's life was a tapestry woven with kindness, creativity, and an enduring commitment to her family and community.
Paula's journey growing up in a military family took her many places, she was in Abilene, where she attended Cooper High School and pursued her passions in cosmetology at Abilene High School. She furthered her education at San Jacinto College focusing on restaurant management and hospitality. Throughout her life, she became known not only for her creative talents but also for the warmheartedness that drew people to her. As a seamstress at "Sewfine" and "On the Grow" or through her antique restoration with "Used to Be," Paula approached every endeavor with grace, diligence, and a generous spirit.
Her heart found its true partner when she married her soulmate, Hadi H. Garakani, on February 14, 1981, in Deer Park, Texas. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and endless support for one another. Paula was a nurturing mother to her children, Enjuli Garakani and Arash James Garakani, and a proud grandmother to Corbin Garakani, Brazos Garakani, and Darci McNiel. Her children and grandchildren were her proudest accomplishments, the greatest treasures in her life.
Paula's interests were as varied as her talents. As a child, she found joy in horseback riding, barrel racing, and participating in trained rodeo drill teams. Her adult life included a deep affection for the community of McGregor, evidenced by her involvement with anything happening on Main Street and her dedication to the McGregor Chamber of Commerce. An influential figure in the lives of many, she also shared her love for adventure and growth as a Girl Scout leader for troop 1704, fostering friendships and skills in countless young girls.
Paula was a closet philanthropist, always generous with her time and talents. Her kindness knew no bounds, and she cherished the relationships she formed with others. Her warmth, vivacity, and nurturing spirit made her the best mother and friend anyone could ever wish for.
