Richard “Rich” Stephenson passed away on October 16, 2026, in Waco, Texas.

Rich was born on July 1, 1951, in Beardstown, Illinois. During his childhood, he enjoyed playing sports and visiting his grandparents’ farm. He graduated from Westwood High School in Mesa, Arizona, in 1969.

Known affectionately as the “Candy Man,” Rich spent more than 20 years working for Mars, Inc., in food safety. He took pride in his work and the many years he dedicated to his career.

His faith and church family were important parts of his life. Rich was involved in various activities at Crestview Church of Christ over the years. Following his retirement, he continued serving others by volunteering with the church’s food pantry and welcome team.

Rich also enjoyed flight simulators, dancing, and taking care of his yard and lawn. In his thirties, he especially enjoyed dancing and spent much of his time doing so. He found enjoyment in his hobbies and took pride in maintaining his home and yard.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Leon Stephenson and Rosa Sewell Bamper; his stepfather, James “Big Jim” Bamper; and his brothers, Samuel Stephenson and James Bamper.

He is survived by his daughter, Katelyn DeRuiter, and her husband, Daniel; and his granddaughter, Laurel DeRuiter.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Steve Young and Mary Teague for their kindness and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Rich will be remembered for the life he lived, the people he cared for, and the memories he leaves behind.
