Robert Kirkwood Landon went home to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 14, 2026, after a long hard-fought battle with Parkinsons & Alzheimer’s. A Celebration of His life, with reception of his military honors will be held from 2-4pm. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Bob was born June 28,1943 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Kirkwood & Rose Landon. He was the younger brother to Don Landon and elder brother to Steve. Robert was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church on October 7, 1945, in Kansas City, Mo. When Robert was in elementary school his family moved to Waco Texas where he confirmed his unwavering faith on December 6, 1954. Once in Waco Robert and his brothers attended Reicher Catholic High school.
In High School Robert was heavily involved in Football, Baseball, Basketball, Track and Field as well as Choir. Robert took pride in the fact that he scored the 1st 3 touchdowns for Reicher catholic High on the then new JJ Kern field. After graduating from Reicher in 1962, Robert went to Tarleton State University on a Track and Field Scholarship. He later transferred to Baylor University where he earned his degree while at the same time managing a local 7 Eleven gas station.
Upon Graduating from Baylor Bob acquired a job at Anderson industries, under one of their 7 companies Fabknit manufacturing inc. where he worked in sales until he was drafted into the United States Navy in 1966. He was sent to San Diago, Ca., for Basic training and officer school. He soon shipped off to Vietnam where he was stationed as a Yoman Petty officer 3rd class on a river patrol flotilla five. Upon returning from combat on the Mekong river Delta in Vietnam, he was awarded several commendations one of which reads in part “Throughout his tour, Petty Officer Landon Performed his duties under the imminent threat of enemy terrorist squads and mainline units and was subjected to numerous rocket and mortar attacks. His professionalism and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States naval service. Earning him the Combat Distinguishing Device Citation from the Secretary of the Navy Signed E.R. Zumwalt Jr Vice Admiral US Naval forces.” Other awards he earned before his Honorable Discharge were the National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal 1, VCM(D) This is the Republic of Vietnam campaign Medal (an award presented to US navy personnel for direct combat support in Vietnam for 6 months or if wounded or captured regardless of service time).
Upon returning to Waco after his honorable discharge from the US Navy on February 5, 1970, Bob resumed his sales position at Fabknit Manufacturing/ Anderson Industries. Where he quickly became the Vice President of sales. In June of that same year, he married Shirley Roberson and adopted he son Gary. Then in 1972 Bob & Shirley welcomed their 2nd son Michael. After a great deal of success 1978 Bob was name President of Fabknit manufacturing, and in October of that year welcomed his 3rd son Ryan to the roster. In 1984 He was president of the schoolboard at Midway ISD. In 1994 He purchased Anderson Industries Then In 1995 the success he had making the uniforms for several very prominent collegiate teams for both Nike and Reebok garnered the attention of Reebok International. In 1996 He signed a licensing agreement to manufacture all of Reebok’s team uniforms in North America and NFL Europe. Over the next 10 years he grew the business making uniforms for major high schools, colleges and even professional teams throughout the Us and other countries. During that time, he suffered several major health crises, leading him to move out to Twin Rivers Golf course where he retired.
Bob spent the next couple decades enjoying his time as HOA president, involved in Rotary club, active on many committees at his Church where he also sang in the choir for the last 40 years, and traveling with his lovely wife Shirley. He also enjoyed Golf, spending time with the Lord, coaching church softball, coaching his children in baseball and basketball. But most of all he enjoyed chasing around his 10 grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kirkwood and Rose Landon. Robert “Bob” is survived by his wife Shirley Landon. His Children, Gary Landon wife Debbie of Waco, Michael Landon of Spring, TX, Ryan Landon & wife Kristen of Waco. His 10 Grandchildren Sharayah Calloway & Husband Kyle, Ricardo Ramirez & wife Hannah, Josh Landon and wife Zoey, Cassia Landon, Michael Landon, Charis Landon, Melissa Landon, Alexander Landon, Barrett Landon & Dylan Landon. Along with 5 Great Grandchildren Lilly, Bella-Rose, Mason, Edson & Franco.
