Roy Lee Sims peacefully went to sleep in the Lord on Sunday, July 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends. A memorial for Roy will be on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Roy was born on October 12, 1957, in Maywood, California, to Samuel and Virginia Sims. He was a devoted brother to Vonda Ritter and William Sims, and a loving father to Susanne, Andrew, and Daniel Sims. He also embraced the role of stepfather to Rhiannon Valle and Joseph Romero, and was a proud grandfather to twelve grandchildren.
Roy’s faith in God was the cornerstone of his life. Throughout his varied career, which included roles as a grocery clerk, pipefitter, HVAC technician, public safety officer for the city of Los Angeles, and bus driver, Roy’s unwavering belief in the Lord guided his every step. He was known for his ability to work with his hands, whether in his garden or woodworking, always thanking God for the skills and opportunities he was given. His love for music was an extension of his worship, and he joyfully played the drums and cajón at different churches.
An adventurous spirit, Roy found joy in God’s creation through activities like motorcycle riding, dirt biking, boogie boarding, scuba diving, and hiking. He saw every adventure as a way to connect with the Lord’s magnificent world.
In October 2012, Roy married Judy Sims, the love of his life. Their marriage was a testament to their shared faith and commitment to God. Upon retirement, they moved to Waco, Texas, in July 2017, where Roy continued to share his faith with everyone he met. His friendly nature made him a beloved figure in the community, and his passion for sharing the message of Jesus was clear to all. Whether talking to passengers on his bus or friends in the neighborhood, Roy was always ready to share the good news of Jesus.
In his final days, Roy’s faith remained strong. He continually spoke of Jesus and asked those around him, “Are you ready?” His deep relationship with God was evident to the end, providing comfort and assurance to his loved ones.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
Roy Lee Sims will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith, love, and adventure will continue to inspire all who knew him. His life was a testament to his unwavering love for the Lord, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
