Listen to Obituary

Satish Natwerlal Shah, born on July 16, 1948 in Gujarat, India, passed away on September 3, 2025 in Waco, Texas, following a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.

In the wake of post-independence India, Satish grew up the youngest of five brothers in the city of Ahmedabad. He earned his medical degree in 1973 from Municipal Medical College of Gujarat University, and then undertook postgraduate training in otolaryngology.

While training in medicine, he met the love of his life Charulata, and they married in 1974. After their medical training, they embarked on a new adventure in the country of Zambia, where they both worked as medical doctors and soon welcomed their first child Anjali to the world.

A few years later, Satish and his young family made another move to the United States. While living in New York City, their son Shivang was born. Following residency training in psychiatry at Harlem Hospital in New York City, Satish went on to work upstate at the New York State-run Middletown Psychiatric Center. Over the course of 25 years, his tireless devotion to his psychiatric practice earned the praise of colleagues and patients alike for his dedication, diligence and affability.

After seeing his children graduate from college, Satish decided that the next chapter of his life would be in Waco, Texas. Never one for sitting still, he continued to work as a psychiatrist at the Waco Veterans Affairs hospital until 2018. He found great joy and pride in taking care of our nation’s wounded warriors, many of whom would drive hours to see him. His dedication to his patients earned him recognition as Employee of the Year during his tenure at the VA.

Above all, Satish was sincere and curious, and he enjoyed reading, music, movies and traveling. He was always eager to learn new things from people that he met in all walks of life. He was good-natured and humble, and he had a quiet sense of humor that will be sorely missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Satish is survived by his wife Charulata; his son Shivang and daughter Anjali; his daughter-in-law Kimberly; his grandchildren Arthur, Benjamin and Rosalind; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to a charity of your choosing in his honor.
