Listen to Obituary

Scott Collins Harris, 67, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on October 1st, 2025. Born on March 4, 1958, Scott grew up in Fort Worth and Austin, Texas. The greatest moment in Scott's life took place when he was 10 years old. That was when Scott accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

God continued to work in Scott's life calling him to full time Christian service when he was in high school. Scott served the Lord throughout high school and college and had opportunities to preach and teach in churches in Texas and Oklahoma.

Following graduation from Baylor University, Scott was ordained to the gospel ministry at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. Scott then went on to serve in Hong Kong for two years at the International Baptist Church with IMB. Scott returned to Texas to study at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his M.Div and Ph.D degrees.

Scott said that going to seminary was the best thing he ever did. At seminary he met the love of his life, JiYoon Lee. They were married on December 6, 1986, and after graduation they went to East Asia to start their 18 years of preaching the word of God mainly to the Chinese people. Though there were many challenges, Scott was grateful for the many wonderful experiences and opportunities to share with those who had never heard the Good News.

After being diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia, Scott and JiYoon relocated to Vancouver, BC, in 2009 and continued to serve the Chinese community by teaching, preaching, discipleship training and church planting.

Scott served 36 years with the International Mission Board, including overseeing the Chinese Diaspora work in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and North and South America.

Scott and JiYoon served all their 38 years of marriage together as a team. They did everything together.

Every day until the end of his life Scott and JiYoon treasured reading the Bible and praying together for family and friends.

Scott is survived by his wife and best friend, JiYoon, brother Hal (Jimmy) Harris and wife, Connie, brother Andy Harris and wife, Suzanne. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews as well as brothers and sisters-in-law throughout the USA and Korea.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to IMB (imb.org/give/).
