Steve Flores of McGregor, Texas, passed away from natural causes on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on March 4, 1947, in Crawford, Texas, Steve attended McGregor High School where he met the love of his life, Pat. The two built a life together in McGregor, where Steve remained a proud and devoted member of the community throughout his life.
Steve worked as a lineman for Southwestern Bell for more than 30 years, climbing poles and restoring connections—just as he did for the people around him. He and Pat were married for 58 years and shared a love of family and the western way of life. Together, they raised three children and instilled in them the values of hard work, loyalty, and tradition.
Steve taught his children how to rope and ride, spending countless weekends at horse shows and rodeos. A dedicated sports fan, he coached youth baseball, football, and track, always leading with encouragement and heart. He was deeply proud of his role as a provider and protector of his family.
The Flores home was often filled with music—whether it was classic country, Tejano, or rock ‘n’ roll—and many evenings ended with dancing in the kitchen. On quieter nights, Steve could be found dozing off to one of his beloved Western movies featuring John Wayne, Clint Eastwood or Gene Autry.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Cox Flores; his daughter Tonette Kaye Flores (wife Sarah); his sons Steven Todd Flores and Jamie Joe Flores (wife Cheryl); and his siblings Charlie Flores, Tonie Flores (wife YungKim), and Mary Flores Wall (husband Jeff). He also leaves behind a legacy of love through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete Chacon Flores Sr. and Lucille Ramos Flores; his brother, Pete Flores Jr.; and his sister, Lucille Robledo.
Steve will be remembered as a man whose life was marked by deep devotion to his family, unwavering enthusiasm for life, and a lasting impact on his community.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Woodway, Texas from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The family welcomes all who knew Steve to join them in honoring his life and sharing cherished memories of a life well-lived.
