Thelma Mae Ramsey, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Lorena, Texas, on June 27, 2025. Born on October 1, 1936, in Bertram, Texas, to Martha Proffitt and James Ebb Dykes. Thelma was a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to caring for others and contributing to her community.
A proud graduate of Georgetown High School in 1955, Thelma excelled in sports, playing volleyball and basketball, and cheered for her peers as a member of the cheerleading squad. She furthered her education at McLennan Community College, where she laid the groundwork for a fulfilling career. Thelma worked as a respiratory therapist and took on various roles in retail management, showcasing her versatility and strong work ethic. Yet, her most cherished role was that of a devoted housewife and mother to her five children.
On June 3, 1955, Thelma married the love of her life, Andrew Roy Ramsey. Together, they built a nurturing home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Their legacy continued through their children: Pam Murphy and her husband David, Charlotte Oliverio, Martha McGaugh and her husband Mark, and Brian Ramsey. Thelma's heart swelled with pride as she became a grandmother to ten, and later a great-grandmother to ten more, each grandchild a bright star in her life.
Beyond her family, Thelma was a pillar of her community. She was deeply involved in the Lorena Methodist Church—a foundation laid during her childhood in Georgetown, where she attended Sunday School and youth group. Over the years, she grew into a devoted and innovative member, enriching the lives of those around her. Her commitment to service extended to many organizations, including the Lorena Woman's Club, AARP (where she served as recording secretary), and as president of the Methodist 4-F Club. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Red Hat Club and the Morning Glory Garden Club, where her love of gardening brought beauty and joy to others.
Thelma had a special gift for cooking, sewing, decorating, and entertaining. Her home was a welcoming haven for family and friends alike, and she cherished every opportunity to gather her loved ones around her dining table.
Her family is deeply grateful to the friends she made at her church for their loving support when she could no longer attend services, and to Halcyon Hospice for helping to ensure her comfort in her final days.
Thelma will be honored during visitation at the Lorena Methodist Church on July 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery in Waco, Texas, at 2:00 PM.
Thelma Mae Ramsey leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and the many lives she touched throughout her journey in this world. She will always be remembered for her kindness, her commitment to her family, and her unwavering faith.
