Timothy Brown

March 30, 1946 — May 6, 2025

Timothy Bruce Brown, 79, of Crawford, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, in Waco.

A visitation in his honor will be on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 5pm to 7pm at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. A funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 11:00am at Grace Gardens Funeral Home with burial following at China Spring Cemetery.

Born on March 30, 1946, in Austin, Texas, Tim was a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. Tim’s love for the Lord served as the foundation for his commitment to his family, profession, church and community.

Tim served in the Air Force and worked for IBM early in his career. He then attended Baylor University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in social work in 1976. He earned a master’s degree in government/public service administration from Tarleton State University in 1981.

While attending Baylor, Tim worked as a home parent and then recreation director at Methodist Children’s Home. He sensed a call to ministry through his service to children, youth and families at MCH. Tim was promoted into administrative positions, including vice president for child care. In 1991, he moved to Lee and Beulah Moor Children’s Home in El Paso, where he served as president before returning to MCH in 2000. He was serving as vice president for community services when he was selected as the 10th president of MCH in 2010, a position he held until his retirement in 2019.

One of Tim’s most impactful contributions was the introduction of Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®), which transformed how MCH supports those in its care and their families. Through his leadership, MCH embarked on a capital campaign to provide 11 new, state-of-the-art homes as part of an extensive Waco Campus Master Plan.

Tim’s vast knowledge and expertise in child care led to a distinguished career. He was a Licensed Master's Level Social Worker-Advanced Practitioner, Licensed Child Care Administrator, and Licensed Child Placing Agency Administrator. He served on numerous advisory boards at the local, state and national levels.

In 1992, Tim received the MCH Alumni Association’s Distinguished Staff Award recognizing his support of their contributions to MCH. Tim enjoyed supporting the Waco Police Department, and he was a former reserve officer. Tim was very proud of the badge he received for his service. He was always grateful for the many Waco officers who have served on the part-time security team at MCH.

Tim was preceded in death by his mother, Charlis Petty Brown.

Tim is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan Brown, of Crawford; son, Remington Brown, and his wife, Rachael, and children, Sawyer and Cheyenne, of Mankato, MN; daughter, Kaler (K.C.) Shirley, and her husband, Patrick, of Belton; son, Matthew Brown, and his wife, Mackenzie, of Spring; and sister, Kay Bennett, and her husband, Terry, of Belton, and daughters, Candy Oakes and Daphne Peeples. Susan is looking forward to the arrival of Kaler and Patrick’s first baby.

Tim and Susan enjoyed the relationships they formed through their life group at First Woodway, and they were blessed to serve together as volunteers for Meals on Wheels. Among his hobbies were woodcarving, woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Methodist Children’s Home, Dementia Society of America or Meals on Wheels.
