Vernita (Holtkamp) Wiethorn was born on September 30, 1931, in Boyd, Texas, to William B. Holtkamp and Emma (Lippe) Holtkamp. She went to her heavenly home on April 17, 2026.
She was baptized on November 1, 1931, at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor, Texas, and confirmed on June 18, 1944, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
Vernita completed her education in Justin, Texas, attending both the elementary and high school there, and graduated on May 10, 1949. On September 30, 1950, she married Lonnie Wiethorn. They worked together on their farm for many years. She was also employed for brief periods at Walls Manufacturing and Spenco Medical.
Vernita was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Crawford, Texas. Throughout the years, she served as a Junior Luther League leader, Sunday School teacher, choir member, Ladies Dorcas Circle member, and bereavement meal committee member. She also enjoyed playing dominoes with the church’s Golden Age group.
Later in life, she and Lonnie were members of Prime Timers and German Society where they met numerous people who became dear friends. They shared fond memories and friendships with travel tour groups, as well. Vernita spent much of her time cooking, gardening, and sewing. Playing dominoes remained a constant source of enjoyment for her—especially when playing 84 with family and friends where she often “talked across the table” when indicating a bid. Then, Lonnie would give her a look over the top of his glasses.
Above all, she loved the Lord.
She is survived by her children: Phyllis Gay Buth (Wiethorn) of Crawford–McGregor; Sharon Miller (Wiethorn) and her husband, Peter, of Missouri; and Mark Wiethorn and his wife, Sheri, of Crawford–McGregor; along with many grandchildren and great‑grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Wiethorn; her son, Gary Wiethorn; and her daughter, Nancy Wiethorn.
The family would like to thank the caring staff and caregivers at The Arbor House, as well as the nurses and team at Bluebonnet Health Services, for their compassionate care.
For those desiring, memorials may be given in her honor to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Crawford, St. Paul Memorial Park of Crawford, or Bluebonnet Health Services hospice care.
