Bill Buck

Bill Buck, a McGregor native and longtime business man, passed away late Sunday night, May 10, 2020, at the age of 89, after a 10-month battle with lung cancer.  A graveside memorial service and inurnment will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday May 16, 2020, at McGregor Cemetery with Jeff Straub officiating, under the direction of Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr. Waco.

Mr. Buck was born March 8, 1931, in McGregor, Texas, the son of the late William Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Johnson) Buck.  In 1950, he graduated from McGregor High School and enlisted in the United States Navy.  He served aboard the Aircraft Carrier ESSEX and then the U.S.S. Iowa BB-61 Battleship prior to his honorable discharge in 1954.  On December 16, 1952, he married the former Doris Ruth Stone in McGregor.

He began his professional career with Charlie Hall at the McGregor Mirror.   He was employed with the Bluebonnet Ordinance Plant which later became Rocketdyne and later Hercules, as a printer.  In 1994, he retired from Hercules in McGregor.  In 1969, he also became owner and operator of Town Printing and Office Supply, starting it in his home, and later moving it to the current location on Main Street in 1974.

He was a former member of College Avenue Baptist Church in McGregor where he was ordained a deacon.  He later joined Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco where he served as a greeter and usher for many years.

In earlier years he enjoyed fishing. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and playing golf.  He also enjoyed meeting with friends for morning coffee at The First National Bank.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  Also preceding him in death was a son, Joel Buck, a sister, Doris Amelunke, and a nephew, Billy Charles Amelunke.

Survivors include his wife Doris of sixty-seven years; a daughter, Donna Buck and fiancé Jeff Straub.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested, memorials be made to Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, The American Lung Association, or to the charity of choice.
