Billy Joe Scott

February 19, 1933 ~ October 14, 2020 (age 87)

Obituary

Billy Joe Scott, of Waco, successfully finished his race on earth on October 14, 2020.  Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Saturday, October 17, at 12:00noon at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Waco.

Billy Joe was born in Robinson, Texas, on February 19, 1933 to G.B. and Loena Truitt Scott, the second of five children.  The Scott family moved to Bosqueville, Texas in 1940, where his father was a dairyman in Steinbeck Bend.  The family enjoyed being a part of the Bosqueville community, and was active in the school and Bosqueville Baptist Church, where he received Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age.  In 1948, he graduated from Tenth Grade at Bosqueville, then completed his high school education at Waco Technical High School in 1950.

In 1950, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Oriskany in the Korean Conflict.  He returned home to Bosqueville and began working on the G.M. Lindsey Dairy, where he fell in love with Dorothy Jean Lindsey, whose family had moved to Bosqueville in 1947.  They married on October 19, 1957 at Bosqueville Baptist Church, where he was later ordained as a deacon in 1966. He loved Dorothy’s parents as his own, and affectionately called her mother, Reba, “Mrs. Reeb”.

In 1959, he formed a partnership with Dr. L.D. Collins and was co-owner of Scott and Collins Dairy in Bosqueville.  After selling the dairy in 1979, he worked as fertilizer manager of Service Mill and  was an original co-owner of B & S Feed and Ranch Store in Bosqueville. He also worked at F.M. Young Construction and Double Circle CO-OP in Waco.

Church involvement was always very important to Bill. He led his family in membership at Bosqueville Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of China Spring, and Parkview Baptist Church, and he often served as deacon in those churches. Bill and Dorothy were later members of First Baptist Woodway and were currently members of Western Heights Baptist Church.

Bill is celebrating heaven with those who have gone on before him, including his parents, G.B. and Loena Truitt Scott; brother Harold Eugene Scott; Bill’s twin sister, Bettie Joyce Scott, who died at birth; and son-in-law Stephen Craig Miller.  He will be greatly missed by his wife of sixty-three years, Dorothy; daughter Vicki Scott Miller of Waco and his sons G.R. Scott of College Station, Texas;  Marc Scott and wife Carolyn of Hallsburg, Texas; and Brian Scott and wife Tiffani of Liberty Hill, Texas; brother Larry Scott and wife Martha Lou, and sister Dianne Scott, of Waco, Texas; grandchildren Lane Scott of Houston, Texas;  Kelsey Scott of Waco, Texas; Andrew Miller and his wife, Tawny of Round Rock , Texas; Caleb Miller of Round Rock, Texas; Tori Miller of Waco, Texas;  Jaxson Scott and Landri Scott of Liberty Hill, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Billy Joe Scott loved God with all of his heart, and served Him faithfully.  He will always be remembered as a man of integrity who loved his wife and family, had a strong work ethic and gave generously to those in need.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers are David Jackson, Bill Koch, Joe Lindsey, Andrew Miller, Caleb Miller, Jaxson Scott, Lane Scott, Bill Van Cleave.
