Obituary

Bobby, 80, passed away after a short stay with Hospice Place -Waco on August 19.  He will be missed.

Bobby was born on December 28, 1942, in Sweetwater, Texas to Jess Womack and Lois Barnes Womack, he was the middle of three children. He attended and graduated from Merkel High School, where he was a member of the band and was known for pulling pranks on teachers and classmates. In 1961, Bobby joined the Navy and served 4 years on the USS Morton during the Vietnam War earning the Good Conduct and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals.  After his time serving our country, he drove a truck for Mrs. Baird’s Bakery from 1965-1966.  In 1966, he joined the Merkel fire department, and drove both a fire truck and ambulance for them until 1972.   Later Bobby continued his education at Brazosport Community and Jr. College, where he studied Electrical Maintenance and was named Phi Theta Kappa.

Bobby married Neva Lee Boyce on December 14, 1973, in Sugarland, Tx.

He was a dedicated worker and spent 26 years working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) starting in security in 1972 and moving up to Area Maintenance Supervisor before retiring in 1995.  After retiring he had his dream of returning to the lake become reality. He was an avid fisherman and known to reel in the big one on occasion, he loved woodworking, and playing both the organ and the guitar.  He had many trusted companions: Spooky, Rambo, Sadie, Dixie, Darby, and Coco. Dixie was truly his fishing companion.  Everyone who ever knew Bobby knows he remained true to himself and would not conform, you had to accept him the way he was.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Barnes Womack; his father Jess Womack; Stepmother, Doris Womack; Stepbrother Jackie Lee Shaw; sister, Jackie Lanier; and brother Tommy Womack.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 49 years, Neva Boyce Womack, daughters, Christy Siems of Dallas, Tx, Laurie Womack of College Station, Tx, Janet Womack of Waco, Tx, stepbrothers, Stanley Shaw of
